Wear thick gloves when handling metal roofing sheets and always keep safety goggles on. Additionally, have a pair of ear plugs handy for when you use saws or other power tools.
Planning the Installation Project
Measure and cut the metal sheet panels as needed before installing them on the roof. Most of the metal sheets will be installed on the roof as whole pieces. However, when reaching the edges or areas with gables, you might need to cut the sheets to fit the space precisely. Alternatively, you can use a ridge cap at the roof’s peak and edges to ensure proper water flow and prevent any gaps at the top of the roof. Use a tape measure to measure the sheet and lightly mark the cutting area with a felt-tip pen. For small cuts, use tin snips, while for larger cuts, electric shears or nibblers can be used.
Installation of Metal Panels
Determine the starting point for the installation. Begin at the bottom corner of the roof. If the prevailing wind and rain come from a specific direction, start at the opposite end. If the prevailing weather direction is unknown, start at the lowest corner of the building. At the same time, determine the alignment of the metal panels. Position one screw on each side of the overlap/underlap ridge, and then insert a third screw directly through the top of the ridge itself. Repeat this screw pattern along the entire overlap joint of the two panels, placing screws approximately every 6 inches down the length of the overlap joint.
